EDUCATION

The Design & Technology Association is an independent charity supporting over 20,000 teachers and schools with the resources, training and advocacy needed to deliver excellent D&T education. For manufacturing and engineering SMEs, the Association plays a direct role in building the future workforce, promoting and lobbying for design and technology as a genuine route into engaging and inspiring young people towards careers in design, manufacturing, engineering and related industries.

The Association also runs a regional programme that brings education and industry together for shared purpose. Local SMEs pool funding and expertise to help deliver training, resources and support for schools in their area, building D&T provision that reflects the local economy. By upskilling and empowering schools with knowledge relevant to local industry, more young people gain access to quality D&T education and a stronger understanding of, and interest in, the manufacturing sector.

For manufacturing and engineering SMEs facing a skills gap, supporting the Association is a direct way to invest in the next generation of talent. You do not need to wait for the skills shortage to bite: contact the Design & Technology Association to find out how your business can get involved in your local area.

OUR RESOURCES

TRAINING

Regional school empowerment

A regional programme to improve the quality of design and technology education in schools in your region. Every school has access to free, funded teacher training for D&T – both primary schools and secondary schools. Schools are also given access to a wealth of free resources to use in the classroom to upskill and empower. Local schools and young people need to have the skills and knowledge sought after by organisations like you and need to be aware of the wealth of opportunities open to them in the region. By improving skills and knowledge at school, funded by local organisations, and supported by local hub schools, you become the reason that young people enter the sector.

1:1 SUPPORT

Blueprint 1000

An opportunity to work on a bespoke school project. Previous opportunities have included developing classroom resources directly linked to your sector/company, competitions, webinars, on-site training or showcase events, student events, and much more. Discuss your challenges with us, and let’s improve D&T education together.

LEARNING

Teachers in Residence

Teachers in Residence (TiR) is a three- to five-day industry experience connecting design and technology teachers with UK manufacturing and construction companies. Teachers gain first-hand experience of how industry operates, while companies have an opportunity to share their knowledge, showcase career pathways and build meaningful relationships with teachers and schools. This helps teachers validate what they are delivering in schools and provides learning context for students.
